Terry Francona reported to the media today that Sean Casey still has problems with his neck, which were apparently aggravated by his attempts to hit on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium before the game. He has not been put on the disabled list yet. Instead, Joe Thurston was designated for assignment to make room for Mark Kotsay, who should arrive around game time in New York.In better news, Josh Beckett appears to remain on track to pitch on Friday, although he will continue to be closely monitored and that could change if there is any doubt at all to his complete health.
Meanwhile, former Sox reliever Craig Hansen has been demoted to AAA by the Pittsburgh Pirates after he walked in the tying and go-ahead runs in a game against the Cubs last night.
